Hawaiian Captain & Crew

Upon arrival to the boat you will be greeted by Captain Jesse Lovett (he’s the younger one) or Captain Dave Borgman (he’s the older one) on the Foxy Lady and Deck-hand Jerrold McNulty (he’s the quite one).  These licensed Captains and Deck-hand have all the necessary knowledge, experience, and judgment required to provide you with a trip that meets and exceeds the United States Coast Guard standards of safety and comfort. You will find no finer sportfishing crew in Hawaii. There are several things that separate this crew from other charter boats in Hawaii. One is Captain Jesse's passion for trying "new" fishing tricks that are gleaned from constant research all over the world. There are Marlin, Tuna, Mahi Mahi and Wahoo in all of the world’s oceans. But fishing techniques differ greatly from place to place. Captain Jesse is always trying to figure out how to adapt new techniques to make them work on his boat and for his guests. The second factor that discriminates this crew from all others is Captain Jesse and Captain Dave's information network. If there has been a fish caught across the state from Kauai all the way to the Big Island of Hawaii, Captain Jesse and Captain Dave know about it!  These guys work very closely with the close-knit Hawaiian recreational and commercial fishing community to put more fish in the boat and more smiles on our angler's faces.  The third trait that distinguishes this crew is their emphasis on fishing productivity.

The crew has consistently outperformed all others in Haleiwa and throughout Hawaii in finding and landing more fish for its angler guests.   There is nothing quite as effective in placing a smile on their guests’ faces and having a memorable day as catching a lot of quality game fish. The proof is in the high number of return customers year after year seeking another once-in-a-lifetime experience! Whether it's rigging up "something new", staring through high powered binoculars for hours on end, calling other hot boats for fish reports or just good old fashioned fisherman's "gut feelings," it’s all a part of the daily routine. These guys work very hard for you and they are proud about, what they do! Check out the Catch of the Day page.  Since the year 2000, we have taken lots of pictures!

Meet the Crew

Captain Jesse
Now he is at the wheel of a beautiful 42` Sportfisher full-time, year round. Giving anglers a world-class experience catching big game fish is what Captain Jesse loves to do and the North Shore is where he wants to be. With the distinction of being the youngest and charter boat captain in Haleiwa Harbor, Captain Jesse's infectious enthusiasm, motivation, and dedication to find and catch fish is second only to his customer service philosophy, “treat your customers right and they will come back”. That is why the boat is always clean, the tackle always works, and the customer always comes first. Captain Jesse has lived on the North Shore his whole life, and much of that time has been spent on the water fishing and boating. After getting his captain's license soon after graduating from high school, Captain Jesse ran boats part-time for other people gaining the experience he needed to have a full-time job fishing in his own back yard.

Captain Dave
Captain Dave has Captain Jesse beat in the age department. In fact he has been sport and commercial fishing out of Haleiwa Harbor for the past 31 years. After completing his service in the Army at Schofield Barracks in 1974, Captain Dave was going to just "hang around" for a year and then head home to Kentucky. All it took was one deep sea fishing trip off the North Shore and he was hooked! Thirty one years later he's still here. Don’t let the gray hair fool you, he can still scramble down off the flying bridge and show the young guys a thing or two! With such a long history of fishing in Hawaii, if you can name it, Captain Dave has caught it and has the stories to prove it.  If only these "old" guys had taken pictures of their catches back in the 1970's and 1980's, we could show you what we're talking about. But commercial fishermen don't take pictures - they fish! We'll save the details for the ride out in the morning.

Deck-hand Jerrold
Having sailed around the world with his family, Jerrold has seen more ocean and had more high seas adventures than most people will ever have. And now he is the number one deckhand on the Foxy Lady. Anyone who has been big game fishing knows that a good deck hand can make or break your fish trip. This former high school football star is quick on his feet and always ready to "Make It Happen”.
He’s a skilled fisherman who will help you land your “fish of a life time”. And for the experienced angler, he’s the guy you want by your side when the pressure is on.

Reliability and know-how to deliver a safe, productive, and enjoyable fishing adventure every time out, that’s what you will get with Chupu Charters.
